A perfect catfish recipe that you will remember for the rest of your life. It is simple yet the final dish is really delicious.
I found this recipe from a catfish pro. You worked hard to catch the catfish using the right bait, angling skills thus it’s only fair that you enjoy your catch using some finest cooking skills. I am not a chef just a regular angler like you but I love food especially catfish and more importantly the catfish I caught.

- Quarter cup Salt
- Cold Water
- Cooking Oil
- Old Bay Seasoning
Preparation of the Catfish Recipe
First, if you can keep the fish alive right up until you’re ready to clean them you’ll have a much fresher filet. If you can’t keep it alive at least keep it on ice.
When you go to clean the fish you want to fillet it. I make a diagonal cut from behind the dorsal fin to behind the anal Fin and then take my fillet knife and come straight. The meat under the dorsal fin is really strong that’s why I make the cut behind the dorsal Backflip the filet over and use the fillet knife to remove the skin. It takes a little practice if you can’t do it with the fillet knife skin it with a pair of pliers before you fillet it.
Directions to Catfish Recipe
- Now get a bowl and put a quarter cup of salt in the bottom of the bowl and fill the bowl 3/4 full of cold water.
- Put the fillets in the cold water and let them soak for at least four hours overnight is even better. The salt will draw out the blood from the flesh.
- Now if you’re going to eat them right away soak them in buttermilk for 4 hours. That will remove any strong flavors the fish might have.
- Now just cover the fish in breadcrumbs and put it in hot oil and fry it. If you want to get fancy put a little Old Bay in your bread crumbs. The trick to really good flavored catfish is to keep it alive or keep it on ice and clean it as soon as you can.
